Save the Film Exchange

The Legacy of Urban Renewal in Oklahoma City...

Oklahoma City has a unique history unlike any city before it. Springing up overnight after the Land Run, the city quickly grew into a thriving boom town. In the decades that followed, Downtown OKC grew into a bustling city center. But in the late 1960's through to the early 1980's, urban renewal gutted much of downtown of its historic buildings. The downtown core has only recently recovered. Now, one of the buildings that survived urban renewal is under threat again. The Film Exchange building on SW 5th & Robinson is in the footprint of the city's Core 2 Shore plan and the city wants it removed.

Doritos - Time Machine

Snacking on Oklahoma Video Production.

This project was pure fun. Although it is not a proper spec spot or entry for the Crash the Super Bowl contest, it's a script I wrote a while ago that I've been wanting to do. The biggest challenge was the shooting the plates for when all four version  Brian Gililland's and Brandon Holly's characters were on screen at the same time.

Jacob Burns supplied the robot from his fantastic Captain Thunder web series. I got a lot of the props from Toy'R'Us. The scientific glasses were an impulse buy and I love the absurdity it added to the whole piece. We used dry ice to create smoking lab projects.

I was very very happy with how it turned out. I will do some proper specs in 2013 as I set my sights at becoming a national commercial director.

Liberty Minded - "About Us"

Liberating Oklahoma Video Production

My friend's libertarian think tank, Liberty Minded, needed a high quality video to introduce and promote the group. I had a very tight window to put this project together. We had talked about doing something before, but schedules never were able to match up. In March of 2012, Ron Paul was having a rally at the Oklahoma State Capital and many of the members of the group were going to be there. I found out a day before and moved heaven and earth to get the project together.

I was lucky to get a slider for some great shots with the capital dome behind our subjects. Our other big challenge besides time was trying to record audio with a live rally happening feet away on a windy day. All-in-all, everything came together nicely and feel the piece really shines.

Crafting a bright, optimistic look for this piece was a priority. A few of the screen shots from color grading are below:

Liberty Minded Teaser

Rallying for Oklahoma Video Production

This is a quick teaser trailer I put together for a promo I'm making for Liberty Minded, a local libertarian think tank in Oklahoma City. I had wanted to do some sort of promo piece for an organization for some time. When I found out the day before that there was a Ron Paul rally on the capital steps and they would all be there, I threw caution to the wind and got them all together to make this video. I'm really a happy with the way i turned out. Especially with all the audio challenges we faced. We spent most of the shoot worried security would come to shut us down, but we were never bothered.

Ravenswood Poptent Contest

Mixing wine with Oklahoma video production.

I did this spot for the Ravenswood Wine contest on Poptent.net and to add to my directing reel.  Special thanks to my friend Heather Mickley and her grandparents for the use of their farm. I found out about the contest 36 hours before the deadline. With no time to throw together a full cast and crew, Heather and I just went for broke to see if we could pull it off in time. Ultimately, I would have loved to have an actor to play the 'wine taster' instead of me. However, Heather's grandfather and uncle did a great job.
